There’s a new hot pot spot in Allston, but its name may lead some to believe it specializes in marijuana (which happens to be a step closer to recreational legality today). Pot Bar is now open at 70 Brighton Ave., breaking the more frequently seen tradition of group-cooked hot pot by offering a host of single-serve dishes, appetizers, and fried sides, perfect for hot pot enthusiasts who prefer not to share.

The menu includes a variety of hot pot combos, from a house special with fermented tofu, sliced beef, pork intestine, pig blood, and assorted other ingredients to a seafood version with shrimp, octopus, and more. There’s a Korean kimchi version, a curry version, and spicy one as well, with similar combos. For those less inclined to go the meaty route, there’s also a vegetarian dish with tofu, mushroom, corn, carrot, vermicelli, and daikon.

All hot pot entrees come with a choice of various noodles or rice, and there’s an option to add more toppings, for an extra charge. Pot Bar joins a handful of other restaurants in Allston-Brighton serving hot pot, including Shabu Zen and Spring Shabu-Shabu.
