Winter 2017-2018 saw a few restaurant openings on the North Shore — two Somerville restaurants expanded to Salem, Beverly got a poke restaurant, a North Shore doughnut pop-up landed a Newburyport storefront, and more. But spring is looking a little busier, from the debut of a “food truck emporium” in Lynn to the expansion of Superfine from Manchester to Marblehead.
Read on for the full rundown of potential spring 2018 openings on the North Shore, keeping in mind that opening dates frequently change. We’ll be updating this guide throughout the season as new information rolls in; let us know if something’s missing or out of date.
A note on geography: Regional borders can be debatable. For the purposes of North Shore coverage throughout Eater Boston, we use the Boston Metropolitan Area Planning Council’s North Shore Task Force’s definition of “North Shore,” which can be found here.

Nothing on our radar for spring 2018 in Beverly. Know of something? Let us know.
Beverly openings beyond spring 2018
Channel Marker Brewing, formerly known as Agapé Brewing, is looking to open a nanobrewery and taproom somewhere in Beverly, where the team wants to focus on small-batch hazy IPAs and barrel-aged beers. The three co-founders are lifelong friends and Beverly natives.

Peabody openings beyond spring 2018
Watch 1 Main St., which is being redeveloped: Both La Siesta and Brodie’s Pub are slated to open there later this year. La Siesta is a Mexican restaurant with a location that has been open for over a decade in Winthrop. Brodie’s Pub already exists in Peabody, on Lowell Street, but it will move to a larger space at the Main Street building. The 30-year-old sports bar serves wings, steak tips, and more.
Another restaurant is moving from Lowell Street to Main Street, too: The NexMex Thing, a Mexican restaurant that opened in early 2017, is moving from 14 Lowell St. to a larger space at 75 Main St.
And one more upcoming opening for Main Street: Longtime homebrewers Robert Dunn and Jeffrey Marquis will open a taproom and brewery, Granite Coast Brewing, at 77 Main St. sometime this year. It’s slated to have indoor and outdoor seating, with growler fills available. There won’t be food for sale.

Salem openings beyond spring 2018
After spring, watch for the 2018 openings of Brew on the Grid (217 Essex St.) and East Regiment Beer Company (30 Church St.). As noted above in the Lynn section, Brew on the Grid is a cafe that is part of a Worcester-based restaurant group with big expansion plans for Brew as well as for several other restaurants. The founder used to oversee 100 Starbucks locations. Brew on the Grid expanded from Worcester to Cambridge in late summer 2017 (but ended up closing in winter 2018), and the forthcoming Lynn and Marlborough locations are expected to open in April 2018.
As for East Regiment, it will be located in the same building as Nick’s Firehouse Coffee Shop, and it will have a tasting room and outdoor seating, with brewing operations in the basement. Follow along on Facebook for construction updates.
In other future brewery news, Portsmouth’s Beara Brewing, an Irish brewery that brews with Irish barley malt, needs more space, and founder Michael Potorti is reportedly eyeing a waterfront space in Salem that would allow for doubled production and a large taproom.
Also coming to Salem at some point soon: Boston Burger Company — which has locations in Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville — will open at 133 Washington St.

Other food tenants haven’t been announced yet.

In other news of iconic spaces being taken over by new developments, the old Hilltop Steak House space at 855 Broadway (Rt. 1) could be home to a new location of the rapidly expanding local chain 110 Grill, which serves new American food in a bit of an upscale setting, in early 2019. It’ll be part of the AvalonBay Communities development being built on the Hilltop site.
Nothing on our radar for spring 2018 in Wakefield. Know of something? Let us know.
