Allston’s go-to source for Asian fare and groceries has just added a new vendor that serves a wide range of teas. Kung Fu Tea (1 Brighton Ave.) debuted its newest location in Boston earlier this month at Super 88, and the menu covers the full gamut of tea beverages, from bubble teas to taro slushes.
Kung Fu Tea is an international brand with locations across the United States and Canada, plus Australia and Vietnam. The Super 88 location is the second Kung Fu Tea in Allston; the brand’s first location in the region opened down the road at 131 Harvard Ave. in 2013. There are now seven Kung Fu Tea locations in Massachusetts.
The founders of Kung Fu Tea wanted to bring Taiwanese bubble tea to the United States, and they’ve built a menu around tea leaves from Taiwan.
“Our discipline and patience has allowed us to create a wholly unique brewing process. It’s a ritual we follow to ensure authentic taste and consistency,” the website reads. Teas are brewed every three hours, and bubbles (or boba) are made every two hours.
The menu includes standard iced teas in several varieties, from black and green to oolong. Other options include coffee milk tea, taro milk, almond milk, lemonade tea punches, yogurt, and espresso. There are also frozen beverages, such as matcha snow creams.
With the addition of a second Kung Fu Tea, Allston is now even more of a hotbed for bubble tea. Other shops in the area that specialize in the beverage include TeaMoji, Next Door Cafe, and LimeRed Tea House, to name a few.
In other Super 88 news, the former Pikaichi space will soon be filled by a new ramen spot, Isshindo.
