A diner’s journey back to its original neighborhood began last summer and will finally come to an end: My Diner (455 E 1st St.) opens in its new South Boston digs on Thursday, February 15, more than a year and a half after its original location at 98 A St. closed down.
“Get excited!” owners Ela and Ben Bashllari posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page, announcing the opening. The diner will kick off business at 6 a.m. Thursday, operating until 2:30 p.m. “Can’t wait to see everyone!”
The Bashllaris took over My Diner in 2004, as previously reported. The original restaurant closed in June of 2016 after more than 10 years in business there, thanks to — what else? — condos being built on the site. The Bashllaris were able to secure a new location in Melrose, which opened in January 2017 and will remain open. After receiving approval to return to Southie last July at a new address, My Diner is finally making its comeback, serving up breakfast and lunch classics daily.
To find the new My Diner, look for the entrance on either side of the restaurant, which is situated in a new apartment building on First Street. Visitors can take an elevator or stairs to floor one or enter from East Second Street via a ramp, per a post on Facebook.
We’re just as anxious about our opening as you all are!! Everything is looking great in here! Can’t wait to see these...
