A restaurant and bar nestled in the heart of Boston College territory has decided to vacate the college town for good. Agoro’s Pizza Bar and Grill (356 Chestnut Hill Ave., Brighton) closed down over the weekend, with the owner citing his growing family and a poor fit within the neighborhood, per BC’s student newspaper, The Heights.

Co-owner Dimitrios Liakos, who owns the restaurant with his brother Nicholas, told the paper he wanted to focus on his family and the original Agoro’s location in Somerset. Per a post on Facebook, the family also plans to relocate the Brighton location to a spot in Southern Massachusetts but did not specify which town.

Liakos also expressed his feelings towards the Brighton neighborhood, telling the paper, “We have come to realize that the College area isn’t where we need to be,” adding that they “will never return to Cleveland Circle, that’s for sure.”

Agoro’s has previously faced disciplinary hearings and brief license suspensions from the City of Boston for issues related to underage drinking, as Boston Restaurant Talk and Universal Hub have reported, not to mention a recent fight that allegedly left a 75-year-old grandmother bleeding on the floor.

A post from the restaurant on social media did express appreciation for the Brighton experience: “Thank you Boston College and Cleveland Circle for the past 2 years of great memories. We have decided to focus on our family first. Selling a business is a very difficult decision but we have weighed out the pros and cons and made our decision. Thank you for supporting us over the last 2 years.”

Agoro’s — which replaced Roggie’s a couple years back — served a varied menu of Greek-style pan pizza, burgers, sandwiches, gyros, salads, and more.
