Even More Local Favorites Are Coming to Logan Airport

While Logan Airport has a lot of dining options, it has lagged behind other US airports in terms of showing off the best of the city’s food scene. Recently, though, there’s been a push by the airport’s concessions developer and manager, MarketPlace Development, to improve this, featuring versions of some of Boston’s favorite markets and restaurants. Lucca and Kelly’s Roast Beef have already opened in recent weeks, and many more spots are on the way, including Santarpio’s Pizza, Sullivan’s, Trade, Saloniki, Tico, Alta Strada, Monument Restaurant & Tavern, Not Your Average Joe’s, B. Good, and Mija Cantina & Tequila Bar, not to mention the recently announced Shōjō.

Now several other local favorites will be following suit: Tasty Burger, Monica’s Mercato, Temazcal Tequila Cantina, and Portland-based Otto Pizza also plan to set up outposts inside Logan Airport in 2019. (Non-local chain Wow Bao is also coming to the airport.)

Tasty Burger opened its first location behind Fenway Park in 2010 and quickly became one of the city’s favorite spots for fast-food burgers. The local chain has been a hit, although it has lost two locations: A fire shuttered the South Boston Location, and the Dudley Square location struggled to attract diners before closing its doors. At Logan, Tasty Burger will give travelers craving a pre-flight burger a far better option than McDonald’s. Also, don’t forget about those tots.

Neighborhood hit Monica’s Mercato has been open on Salem Street in the North End since 1995, and it specializes in pasta, pizza, and sandwiches.

This will be the sixth location for local Mexican chain Temazcal, which is in Boston’s Seaport District, Lynnfield, Burlington, Dedham, and Framingham. And Otto, which is based up in Portland, is no stranger to the Boston area: It already has six locations around Massachusetts.

The airport’s effort to feature local restaurants has been a deliberate one.

“We think passengers will welcome these well-known brands, many of which are local in nature and will create a hometown feel for our travelers,” said Paul McGinn, the president of MarketPlace Development, in a statement. “MarketPlace Logan, along with our collaboration with Massport, looks forward to offering a taste of Boston and New England, and that’s something we stand behind and will remain committed to when introducing new restaurants and retailers to our Boston Logan community.”
