Formaggio Spreads Cheesy Goodness to Kendall Square This Week

A 40-year-old Cambridge cheese shop expands with a fourth store this week, adding kitchen and retail space outside of Kendall Square. Formaggio Kitchen unveils its new store at 94 Hampshire St. on Friday, December 28. (The location is right by Lord Hobo and Gypsy Place Coffee and Juice, and it’s a few blocks from Oleana.) The shop joins the original in Cambridge’s Huron Village, one in Boston’s South End, and one in New York.

Formaggio Kitchen Kendall opens at 10 a.m. on Friday, operating until 5 p.m. for its first day in business. The site previously housed an Edible Arrangements location and has ample kitchen space and basement storage, plus room for retail in the front. Though retail won’t be the main function of the Kendall store, it will have familiar products from the other Formaggio locations, including, of course, cheese.

The shop will help Formaggio accommodate its growing catering business, taking pressure off the stocked and often crowded Huron Village store. Formaggio’s catering arm provides cheese and charcuterie platters, mezze platters with stuffed grape leaves and olives, hors d’oeuvres, sandwiches, salads, and tray bakes like lasagna, mac and cheese, and moussaka.
