Sakana Sushi Bar (983 Massachusetts Ave.) has opened on the stretch of Massachusetts Avenue that joins Cambridge’s Central and Harvard squares, just a four-minute stroll from local sushi mainstay Cafe Sushi. Sakana, which took over for Cafe Anthony, debuted recently and is open for lunch and dinner.

While sushi is the main item on Sakana’s menu, there are also salads, soups, gyoza, tempura, and assorted entrees, including donburi (rice bowls), chicken katsu, and teriyaki. The sushi offerings include sashimi, nigiri, and makimono, with varieties ranging from salmon and tuna to sweet potato and avocado. Plus, there’s dessert, including matcha flan and mille crêpes cakes.

Sakana — which promises “traditional sushi with an intriguing twist,” per its official description on its Yelp page — is open seven days a week from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. The first visitors to post online reviews have been enthusiastic so far, praising Sakana’s presentation, staff, and food.
