With Thanksgiving coming up on November 22, 2018, followed quickly by Christmas and a variety of other early winter celebrations, pies are an essential piece of the holiday puzzle. If you don’t feel like diving into baking this year, plenty of local restaurants and bakers are now taking pie orders for the holiday season. Here are some sweet options in and around Boston, including pies of all flavors — and a few other special desserts.
199C Highland Ave., Spring Hill, Somerville
Ok, this one’s not pie — it’s cheesecake — but it’ll fit right in on your holiday table. Flavors include pumpkin, cookies and cream, Taza chocolate raspberry, peanut butter cup, and more. Prices range from $10 to $52 depending on size and type. Order online; the store will be open until 5 p.m. on November 21 for pickups.
500 Technology Sq., Kendall Square, Cambridge
The Cambridge location of Area Four is now accepting dessert and side orders for holiday pickups beginning November 20. Pies ($20 each) include pecan chocolate, banana cream, coconut cream, apple streusel, and more, and there’s also cornbread, dinner rolls, and cookie platters. The Back Bay French restaurant is accepting fall pie orders through 6 p.m. on November 20, with flavors including pecan, chocolate, pistachio-raspberry cream, and more. Order whole pies online ($30 to $45), or grab a slice ($6) while dining at the restaurant.
Blue Ribbon Barbecue
908 Massachusetts Ave., Arlington; 342 Washington St., Dedham; 1375 Washington St., West Newton
Blue Ribbon’s main holiday options are big packages showcasing turkey or smoked pork loin, but there are a variety of a la carte options, too, including pies for $17 each; they serve eight people. The flavors are key lime, pecan, pumpkin, and apple crumb, and all are served with whipped cream. Order through the catering office — (617) BIG-RIBS — for pickup at any of the locations between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. on November 21 for Thanksgiving or between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on December 24 for Christmas. Orders can’t be placed at the restaurants and must be prepaid by credit card by November 19 at 5 p.m. for Thanksgiving or December 21 for Christmas.

Head to South Boston to pick up a pie on November 20 (noon to 8 p.m.), 21 (noon to 8 p.m.), or 22 (8 a.m. to 2 p.m.); online ordering is open now. Flavors include apple, pumpkin, and French silk, and each can be made traditionally or gluten-free. Prices range from $30 to $35.
Clear Flour Bread

For the first time ever, Clear Flour is offering holiday pre-orders; items include an apple Normandy tart ($22.50), brown butter bourbon pecan tart ($24), and more. Order online through November 17 (or sell out) for pickup beginning at 10 a.m. on November 21.
Community Servings: Pie in the Sky
Multiple pickup locations around Greater Boston
Every year, Community Servings runs a holiday pie drive to raise funds; this is the 26th annual pie event. (The organization works to prepare and deliver medically-tailored meals to 2,000 homebound people annually in the Boston area.) One pie — $30 — allows Community Servings to feed a client for a week. There are apple, pecan, pumpkin, and sweet potato pies available, and you can also donate $30 to gift a pie to a Community Servings client. (Additional donations of any amount are also welcome.) Order and donate online through November 17, and pick up pies at numerous Boston-area locations (pick a location when placing an order). Exact pickup hours vary by location, but for the most part, pies will be available for pickup on November 21.

Boston Public Market, 100 Hanover St., Downtown Boston; 594 Somerville Ave., Somerville
Finesse is doling out holiday pies, cheesecakes, and Paris-Brest pastries at its Boston Public Market location as well as at its new Somerville storefront. Flavors include blueberry, lemon meringue, and more, and prices range from about $18 to $28. Pre-orders will be accepted until November 15; orders placed after that may be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Pies will be available for pickup on November 21, between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Boston location and between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. in Somerville. Order online, specifying your pickup location in the “add a note” section of your shopping cart.
Flour Bakery & Cafe

In addition to offering a wide variety of Thanksgiving trimmings and sides, Flour is also serving pies (pumpkin, pecan, chocolate cream, and more), brown butter cinnamon rolls, gingerbread with coffee glaze, and other treats. A note to those with special diets: Many of the treats are nut free, there are vegan apple cinnamon muffin tops, and the pumpkin pie and chocolate cream pie can be made gluten-free if pre-ordered. Pies serve eight and range from $25 to $38. Order online by noon on November 16 and pick up starting at noon on November 20 and 21; choose a pickup location in the final step of the ordering process.
Fornax Bread Company

Fornax doesn’t just specialize in bread: There are pies, too, including blueberry, apple, and pear cranberry. They’re priced between $13 and $25, depending on size and type. Consult the menu and order by phone or email by the end of the day on November 18; a 50% deposit will be required. Pickups are available on November 20 and 21.
Gracie’s Ice Cream

Why get regular pie when you can get ice cream pie? Gracie’s default version ($26), which feeds six to 12 people, comes with an Oreo crust, hot fudge topping, and Oreo topping, but you can inquire about other options. Order several days in advance.
Boston Public Market, 100 Hanover St., Downtown Boston
Order by November 14 for November 20 delivery of a dairy-free and gluten-free apple-pumpkin pie, a gluten-free and vegan apple pie, or a gluten-free and dairy-free pumpkin pie (prices range from $20 to $25). There’s also a $10 pie crust (gluten-free and vegan) available. You can also add on other items from Inna’s Kitchen’s online store, such as frozen soups, chicken pot pies, and more.
Jennifer Lee’s Bakery

All of Jennifer Lee’s baked goods are vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, and sesame-free; most are also soy-free and coconut-free. Place pre-orders online by November 18 for Thanksgiving pies (peach crumble, pumpkin, and more), cupcakes, maple brownies, and other treats, as well as a variety of meatless main courses and side dishes. Pickup is available at the Boston location on November 20 and 21 (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and at Matchstick Market in Clinton on November 18 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.). Plus, delivery is available on November 21 to towns off of Route 3 from Boston to Sandwich and from Burlington to Manchester, New Hampshire.
Quincy Market, 4 S. Market St., Downtown Boston
New York export Magnolia Bakery is settling in comfortably at Quincy Market, and it’s offering a lot of sweets for holiday pre-order, including a few different pies, priced from $28 to $34. The bakery’s popular banana pudding is also available in several sizes and two flavors — traditional and pumpkin gingersnap — plus cakes and cupcakes. Order now for pickup between November 19 and 21. 24-hour notice required.
Cassidy Salus (an alum of Steel & Rye and Prairie Fire, among other restaurants) is baking several types of pies and tarts, as well as bread and cookies, for Thanksgiving. In addition to a turkey roll and sides, Mamaleh’s is offering pies for Thanksgiving — charoset, chocolate tahini swirl, and sweet potato with toasted house-made marshmallow fluff ($32 each, and they serve eight). Hurry, orders are due on November 14 for pie pickup at Petsi Pies’ Somerville location (no pickup available at the Cambridge location); pickups will occur on November 20 and 21. Flavors include apple crumb, sweet potato, Mississippi mud, bourbon chocolate pecan, and more, and prices range from $28 to $30.
Throughout the holiday season, Rae — who pops up with a variety of pastries on Saturday mornings inside Field & Vine, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or sell out, during the Union Square farmers market season — will be baking up family-sized portions of chocolate babka. Stop by on November 17 to sign up for a pre-Thanksgiving pickup.
