A slow trickle of quick-service burger restaurants out of Boston continues with the closure of one local establishment and a Boston location of an out-of-town chain. UBurger shut down its location on Boston University’s BU West Campus, while Texas-based Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes closed down in Jamaica Plain.
UBurger has been a part of Boston’s home-grown burger restaurant landscape since it first opened in Kenmore Square in 2006 with city-themed offerings like the Big Papi burger, along with frappes, salads, and more. This closure comes three years after the shutter of a UBurger on Tremont Street near Boston Common that, incidentally, is now home to a Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes location. Despite the BU West UBurger closure, the local chain remains open in Kenmore Square, on the Northeastern University campus, and in Andover.
Meanwhile, although the 225 Centre St., Boston, location of Mooyah is no more, the Boston Common location remains open, and there are several others elsewhere in Massachusetts.
Plus, there are plenty of other burgers to eat in the Boston area, fast-casual and otherwise, including these essential picks. And there are more on the way: Keep an eye out for the expansion of Beverly’s A&B Burgers to Boston’s West End, for example.
