A small sushi empire on the rise in the Boston area just unveiled its newest restaurant. Genki Ya expanded over the weekend, opening its fifth location, this one in Somerville’s Davis Square at 246 Elm St.
Genki Ya — with locations in Brookline, Cambridge, Boston, and Dedham — announced plans for the expansion to Somerville in early August, taking over for Diva Indian Bistro, which closed last December after 20 years in business.
Genki Ya has been around since 2007, and each location offers a vast menu of maki rolls, nigiri, and sashimi, with options for white, brown, or multi-grain rice. Further dishes include soups, salads, soba and udon noodles, tempura dishes, and beef teriyaki.
Somerville’s restaurant also has a liquor license, with bar seating available along with sleek table seating.
