A South Station coffee shop just added a counterpart on State Street in downtown Boston: The Well Coffee House has taken over the former Pret a Manger space (1 State St.) near the old State House and has been open during limited hours this week for its first days in business.

The Well Coffee House first opened in South Station in 2014. Its staff members are volunteers, in keeping with its mission as a Christian non-profit cafe to “create high quality coffee house environments that produce opportunities to build relationships, serve the community, demonstrate love, present the Gospel, and bring glory to Jesus.”

In its expansion to State Street, the Well Coffee House similarly expands its menu. There are standard coffee beverages, plus espresso-based drinks, iced coffees, tea, hot chocolate, and frozen coffees as well, plus baked goods. The large space has high-top, table, and barstool seating.

To start, the new Well Coffee House location is operating from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with plans to expand hours soon to operate from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The cafe also plans to host community gatherings and music performances. Follow the Well on social media for updates on its hours.
