Xi’an Street Foods (182 Brighton Ave., Allston) opened in Allston today, January 26, adding to a growing list of Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood. The restaurant features foods from Xi’an, the capital city of China’s Shaanxi province.
Though the names are similar, Xi’an Street Foods is not related to the growing New York chain Xi’an Famous Foods (which plans to expand to Boston). But Xi’an Street Foods is part of a chain; there are 30 locations around China.
The Xi’an Street Foods menu includes a variety of skewers and noodle dishes, including biang biang noodles, along with one of Shaanxi’s most beloved street foods: rougamo. Rougamo is effectively a Chinese burger, only instead of a seeded bun, two pieces of flatbread surround the meat (typically pork, lamb, or beef). Rougamo is often very cumin-forward.
Xi’an Street Foods is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. till 11 p.m. Go beat this miserably cold weather with a Chinese burger and some hot and sour sweet potato noodle soup.
