The surprise trend of 2018 is not froyo, cupcakes, sushi burritos, or juice bars. It’s ax-throwing bars — venues where customers can throw axes at targets. While drinking alcohol.
It may be a new trend here, but it’s been popular around Canada for years now, and it’s picking up steam around the United States as well, with recent openings in Detroit, Charlotte, Brooklyn, and beyond.
As of January 2018, there are at least four such venues opening up in Massachusetts this year: Urban Axes in Somerville, Revolution Axe Throwing in Everett, Agawam Axe House in Agawam, and Half Axe in Marlborough. (The latter doesn’t serve its own food and drink, but it’s located inside an entertainment complex with lots of other activities and a bar right downstairs.)
