A specialty food and goods mart with a cheese counter and cafe could arrive as early as this fall in Brookline, and the team behind it is turning to crowdfunding to help meet that deadline. With construction underway for Allium Market and Cafe, owner Talia Glass and her team rolled out a Kickstarter campaign to help fund some of the unforeseen costs that crept up over the last several months.
“We are in the build out phase, and renovations to our space are coming along but have hit a few speed bumps along the way including an upcoming major sidewalk demolition and unplanned stairway remodel,” part of the campaign reads.
Allium set a goal of $30,000 to raise to clear the final hurdles on the road to opening. In addition to the sidewalk and stairway updates, funds raised will go towards additional contractors to complete the buildout in time for the fall and holiday seasons, along with some design elements inside the cafe.
The plan for Allium includes a special section of the market devoted to cheese, shelves stocked with specialty items like sauces and pickled vegetables, and a counter for ordering cafe food and beverages, as previously reported.
“We are committed to creating a space that is at once inviting, timeless, exciting, and accessible,” part of the Kickstarter campaign reads. “So we’re asking for a little help from you — our friends, fans, and community.”
Those who support the campaign will receive treats in the form of tote bags, sea salt caramel, and vouchers for the cafe, among other items, once Allium gets up and running. The deadline for funding the project is October 25.
