A Swiss bakery and cafe has a long game planned that will eventually see a new location in Cambridge’s Harvard Square. Swissbakers is slated to add a cafe within Harvard University’s Smith Campus Center, according to Boston Restaurant Talk, but it won’t be any time soon. The campus center has been undergoing serious renovations and will not be completed until the fall of 2018. Preparations for construction prompted the relocation and closure of several restaurants last year, as previously reported.
Swissbakers has existing locations in Allston, Reading, and within the Boston Public Market, and the company previously operated a short-term bakery in Cambridge’s Kendall Square. The proposed Harvard Square bakery will operate within the campus center at 1350 Massachusetts Ave.
Cambridge’s zoning board will hear the bakery’s proposal in the middle of October, and if it’s granted approval, expect to see piles and piles of pretzels, croissants, and other baked goods in Harvard Square sometime next fall.
