A Thai restaurant called Kor Tor Mor is on the verge of opening in Somerville’s Davis Square, taking over the space previously occupied by a Chinese restaurant called Golden Light (24 College Ave.) It’s right next to the newish oatmeal-focused spot called Oat Shop.

The new restaurant’s name may refer to a Thai abbreviation for Bangkok, which has an extraordinarily long full name that puts one notorious Massachusetts lake to shame.
Based on Kor Tor Mor’s signage and Facebook page, it’ll serve Bangkok street foods and offer takeout and delivery. An employee tells Eater that the restaurant’s signature dish will be khao na kai, a Thai chicken, gravy, and rice dish.
Owner Jakkarin Daranuwat is also behind Tom Yum Koong in Medford and Pandan Leaf in East Cambridge, based on business filings and posts on Daranuwat’s Facebook page.
There’s also a restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, by the name of Kor Tor Mor. The restaurant didn’t immediately respond when asked whether the two are connected, but their differing logos and other details suggest that they are not.

The Somerville restaurant could open any day now; per the employee, Kor Tor Mor is just waiting on inspections. Keep an eye on the restaurant’s nascent Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as its website, for updates.
