A beloved Bay Village sandwich shop will get a new sibling north of the river, and the theme of the forthcoming restaurant brings together two food staples from the North Shore and South Shore of Massachusetts. Mike & Patty’s owners Mike Gurevich and Ania Zaroda will open North South in the forthcoming Bow Market in Somerville’s Union Square, as Boston Magazine reported.

The restaurant will take up a small food stall alongside other food vendors in the Bow Market, bringing a local battle of the North Shore’s roast beef and the South Shore’s bar pizza to life in one compact space.

Gurevich and Zaroda, a husband-and-wife team, took over Mike & Patty’s in 2013 and recently attempted to expand to Waltham. Those plans dematerialized, however, and now the pair will focus on this Union Square expansion. They’ll be working with chef Jesse Rosen on North South, which will have a simple menu dominated by roast beef and pizza.

North South will join a brewery and other food vendors at Bow Market, including Jaju Pierogi and Maca, among others. Stay tuned for more details as the market gets close to debuting; the current target is early 2018.
