A restaurant and music venue north of Boston has closed its doors for good. Spotlight Tavern in Beverly shuttered “abruptly” last week, according to Vanyaland, and items from the restaurant will come up for auction later this week. Spotlight Tavern was known for hosting live music events and serving pub fare like burgers, sandwiches, meatloaf, and fish and chips.

The surprise closing of the venue caused a lot of chatter on social media, with various fans posting words of support on its Facebook page and local musicians expressing dismay and shock. A Go Fund Me page even popped up to help the Spotlight Tavern employees as they look for new employment, and a recent post indicates the staff will launch an entertainment company to continue the live music performances in some capacity.

Spotlight Tavern’s all-alcohol license will be put up for auction on Tuesday, August 22, along with equipment and furniture from the restaurant.
