A beloved New York gyro restaurant and food cart empire will finally make good on its promise to feed Boston next month. The Halal Guys plans to hold its grand opening on Friday, September 15, making its Boston debut in the Theatre District at 115 Stuart St., within CityPlace.
The Halal Guys announced the opening date on social media and indicated that there will be opening day giveaways, including an opportunity to win free meals for a month. The simple menu includes chicken, beef gyro, and falafel, which get rolled up into a wrap or served on a platter with rice, salad, and pita on the side. Additions include hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, and fries, and the restaurant offers baklava for dessert.
Founders Muhammed Abouelenein, Abdelbaset Elsayed, and Ahmed Elsaka started the Halal Guys as a food cart in New York City in 1990. The team worked to expand its New York presence, growing into brick-and-mortar restaurants all over the city and later across the country. A new bout of expansion promises to bring six Halal Guys locations to the Boston area, including the Theatre District restaurant opening early next month. Others will follow in the Financial District, in Boston’s West End near TD Garden, Back Bay, Downtown Crossing, and in Porter Square in Cambridge, as previously reported.
Update, 8/30/17: This article has been updated to reflect that the opening date has been pushed from September 8 to September 15.
