Months after a longstanding South Boston diner was forced out of the neighborhood due to construction, it has finalized plans for a return to the area in a new location. My Diner has secured approval to open at 455 E 1st St., per a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

Last year, My Diner left its original location at 98 A St., which it occupied for more than a decade, and relocated to Melrose. Owners Ela and Ben Bashllari have indicated that the Melrose location will remain open; the return to Southie will be an expansion for My Diner. Word of My Diner’s return to Southie first surfaced in May, as Boston Restaurant Talk reported, and the move is now official.

My Diner specializes in cooked-to-order breakfast and lunch dishes, including waffles with whipped cream and sliced bananas; eggs; turkey hash and chili; and sandwiches. The diner is open daily from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stay tuned for specifics on an opening date for the Southie location, which could happen by the end of the summer.
