The New Earls at the Pru Will Have a Swanky Rooftop

With a retractable roof allowing for three seasons of fun

Boston welcomes an import from Canada in September when Earls Kitchen + Bar opens its second area location within Back Bay’s Prudential Center. It’s been about two years since the expansion was first announced, but all that waiting will pay off in the form of a fancy rooftop dining space.

Like Eataly, Earls will span multiple levels within the Pru, occupying around 14,500 square feet of space. There will be a bar on the first level, a second level with 300 seats in the main dining room, an open kitchen, a private dining area, and the rooftop patio and lounge, which will seat 200 and will have a retractable roof and plenty of foliage.

The bar area will serve six versions of an Old Fashioned, plus other classic cocktails, craft beer, and wine. Earls will source local ingredients for its menu, with some regional dishes made specifically for this new location. Other entrees include bibimbap, burgers, steak, seafood, sushi, and more. The restaurant will be decorated with art from local artists.

Back Bay’s Earls will be the tenth location in the U.S. There is also an Earls location in Somerville’s Assembly Row. The chain is named for the father-and-son founding duo, who share the middle name Earl, hence the lack of apostrophe.

Update, 8/29/17: This piece has been updated to reflect that fire pits are no longer part of the plan.
