A Davis Square ramen restaurant is eyeing an expansion: Snappy Ramen could take over the former iYo Bistro space at 234 Elm St. if the city of Somerville approves the move from its current (but smaller) home nearby at 420 Highland Ave., according to Cambridge Day.
Snappy Ramen (formerly Snappy Sushi) currently seats guests at a communal table and a few smaller tables, with a few seats at the old sushi counter. The iYo Bistro space offers 68 seats, meaning Snappy Ramen would be better able to accommodate the crowds that regularly gather outside awaiting a seat.
iYo Bistro closed down last September after undergoing a rebranding earlier on in 2016, as previously reported. Snappy serves a menu of various ramen dishes with extra toppings, plus steamed buns, beer, and sake. Cambridge Day reports that Somerville’s licensing commission may consider the change of location at a meeting in July.
