A new corner restaurant in East Boston specializes in one thing: toasted flatbread sandwiches. Toasted Flats appeared near the end of May with little-to-no fanfare, opening at 53 Chelsea St. near the Maverick MBTA stop.
The flatbreads range in price from $5.50 to $7 and include a range of meat and veggie options. The so-called veggie flat is filled with two kinds of cheese, plus lettuce, onions, and tomato, and there is a grilled cheese flat as well. Other versions include the roast beef flat with barbecue sauce; the pastrami flat with cheese and mustard; and the Italian flat with salami, pepperoni, provolone, mozzarella, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and hots. The restaurant also stocks Cape Cod chips.
Toasted Flats is located just down the street from East Boston’s famous pizza place, Santarpio’s. The small storefront is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to a City of Boston licensing board agenda.
