A new seaside taco spot opened in Quincy last week, right next door to an iconic seafood shack. Baja Box has arrived on Wollaston Beach just in time for the summer months, and it’s a new sibling to the nearly 50-year-old Clam Box, whose owner, Brian Schwanke, has partnered with chef Tom Holloway (formerly of Rustic Kitchen) to bring this Mexican-inspired dining option to Quincy’s beachgoers.
Tacos figure prominently on the Baja Box menu, with a variety of fillings, including fried or grilled fish, shrimp, grilled chicken, pork carnitas, beef barbacoa, and chicken tinga. There are also nachos, chips and salsa, tortilla soup, and Mexican street corn. Baja Box is located at 793 Quincy Shore Dr., within the space that used to house The Ice Box, which served ice cream and frozen goods alongside The Clam Box. Honoring that legacy, Baja Box also serves frosty treats from Gifford’s Famous Ice Cream and Richie’s Italian Ice.
Customers can dine at picnic tables or stools on the dog-friendly outdoor patio. Baja Box operates from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
