A barbecue restaurant is just a few weeks away from flinging open its doors in Salem and showering the city in piles and piles of smoked meats and plenty of beer. But that’s not all: Smokin’ Betty’s BBQ + Bar also has some fun up its sleeve, including a hybrid shuffleboard-bowling table for customers to use while chowing down on barbecue.

Steve Feldmann and Marie Feldmannova, who also operate Gulu-Gulu Cafe and Flying Saucer Pizza Company in Salem, are behind Smokin’ Betty’s, which has been coming together piece by piece at 94 Lafayette St. over the past few months. They have been working with executive chef Todd Bekesha for the restaurant’s menu, and they’re now putting the final touches on the restaurant, hoping to open in about two weeks, per a Facebook post.

In addition to the bowling table, the restaurant also features murals from local artist Dan Blakeslee, who’s known for the artwork that graces the cans of Alchemist Brewery’s coveted Heady Topper double IPA.

Along with a range of smoked meats, Smokin’ Betty’s will have some vegetarian options and assorted sides. The team is now hiring staff. Stay tuned for details on an exact opening date, which will likely be before the end of the month.
