A new restaurant specializing in noodle soups and dumplings has opened its doors in Brookline. Bess’s Cafe is up and running at 224 Cypress St., serving Jiang Nan-style noodles and small bites.
The cafe replaced Brick Wall Kitchen, which served breakfast and lunch and closed down at the end of February, as previously reported. The new restaurant is named after its founder, Bess, who runs the operation with her husband.
The menu at Bess’s Cafe includes cold dishes like cucumber salad and drunken chicken, along with house-made dumplings that come in orders of eight and are filled with chicken, pork, or a pork and shrimp combo. There are also assorted buns and scallion pancake wraps. Soup varieties at Bess’s include spicy dan dan noodles, spicy beef, pork belly, crispy chicken, and vegetable, and there are desserts, smoothies, shakes, and other beverages available.
Bess’s seats 14 people and offers take-out. It is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
