Visitors passing through Boston may one day be able to get a taste of some local favorites without even leaving the airport: Three popular restaurants could be tapped to add locations inside Logan Airport, according to the Boston Globe.
Local firm MarketPlace Development just put in the winning bid for a 10-year concessions contract at the airport and mentioned three local heavy-hitters in the bid: Sullivan’s, the seasonal Castle Island hot dog stand; Santarpio’s, the legendary East Boston pizzeria; and Kelly’s, a popular local roast beef chain that currently has five locations. While these three fixtures of Boston’s restaurant world are not official future tenants yet, plans have reportedly been discussed. The Globe spoke with Kelly’s director of operations Dan Doherty, who said that the company has been considering a Logan location for a while, and now the time is right. (It’d likely be run by a separate company via a licensing agreement, Doherty noted, but the terms of the agreement would allow quality control oversight from Kelly’s.)
The new developments at the airport will stretch over the next five years, as many of the existing retail tenants are in the middle of five- to 10-year leases, but changes are on the way.
Logan’s current crop of dining options does include a number of local faces already, such as Legal Sea Foods (five Logan locations with a sixth on the way, according to the Globe), Stephanie’s (sibling to Stephanie’s on Newbury, Stephi’s on Tremont, and Stephi’s in Southie), Harpoon Tap Room, Durgin-Park, and more. Of course, there are several Dunkin’ Donuts.
