A Chicago-based coffee roaster is inching closer to opening its first Boston-area outpost in Watertown and will introduce itself to the neighborhood this week by handing out free coffee and espresso beverages from its shiny red truck.
The Intelligentsia Coffee truck will be parked near the future Coffeebar and training lab at 810 Mt. Auburn St. on Thursday and Friday, and members of the Watertown team will brew up free coffee for those who stop by from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Intelligentsia in Watertown is set to open in May, and the coffee bar will feature a pour over bar that showcases the coffee-making process. Intelligentsia will partner with a local bakery for food items.
While this is Intelligentsia’s first physical location in the Boston area, as previously reported, the coffee has already found its way into a handful of local shops, including sister cafes Forge Baking Co., Diesel, and Bloc Cafe (formerly Bloc 11).
Intelligentsia was founded in Chicago in 1995 and emphasizes direct trade relationships and sustainability. Peet's Coffee & Tea acquired a majority stake in the company in 2015.
