A sandwich shop with a loyal following at its original seasonal location in Maine and its second location in Portsmouth will travel even further south to open a new spot in Boston. Bennett’s Sandwich Shop will take over the former Swish Shabu space at 84 Peterborough St. in the Fenway neighborhood, according to Boston Restaurant Talk.
The first Bennett’s location in Kennebunk, ME has been around since 1982, and its Portsmouth, NH location opened in 2015. The new Fenway restaurant is slated to open up this summer, per Bennett’s website, bringing with it the shop’s acclaimed lobster rolls and a lineup of hot and cold sandwiches.
Bennett’s is not the only Maine institution making its way to Fenway: Portland’s Eventide Oyster Co. is set to open a location within the Van Ness apartment building at 1321 Boylston St., as previously reported, making the neighborhood a bit of a lobster roll destination. The Boston location of Eventide will have a “concise and creative seafood menu in a casual counter-service setting,” the team previously announced, so it’s unclear how much the menu will reflect the original location, but in Maine, the menu includes raw bar items, a burger, and lots more.
While the Eventide opening is slated for summer, get a sneak peek on April 4 when the team pops up at Haley.Henry Wine Bar in Boston’s Downtown Crossing, serving up some Eventide-style dishes within the limitations of Haley.Henry’s tiny kitchen.
