A new pop-up takes up residence in the South End tonight, bringing plenty of Indonesian inspiration into the kitchen at Wink & Nod. Kaki Lima, from wife-and-husband team Retno Pratiwi and Peter Gelling, kick off its tenure at 5 p.m. Monday at 3 Appleton St. and will stick around until the middle of September.
This move follows Kaki Lima’s previous pop-up at KO Pies in East Boston, where Pratiwi and Gelling served items like kentang-udang balado, a spicy shrimp dish, and dadar gulung, which are coconut-filled pandan crepes. The pair is expected to test some new dishes during the residency at Wink & Nod, including batagor, a combination of fried shrimp dumplings and tofu in a spicy peanut sauce.
Kaki Lima takes over the residency at Wink & Nod from Little Owl Tavern, a forthcoming Italian restaurant from Bill Brodsky of Boston Nightlife Ventures, as previously reported. Wink & Nod is also in the BNV family.
