A restaurant in Jamaica Plain that specialized in a variety of hand pies has closed down, but its owner has plans to keep the pies around. Aurum Pies will leave a vacancy in Hyde Square as Matthew Virzi moves forward with a new business plan that focuses on expanding his catering and wholesale operations without a restaurant, as Boston Magazine noted.

Virzi shared the news on the Aurum Pies Facebook page, thanking customers for their patronage during the restaurant’s three-year run. “Thanks especially to the Hyde Square neighborhood for being such a great place to operate a business,” he wrote.

Aurum served Syrian-inspired pies filled with all manner of meat and vegetable combos at its 377 Centre St. restaurant, and Virzi will continue to sell the pies online, in addition to offering catering. He also has plans to run pop-ups around New England starting this spring.
