A fast-casual Mediterranean restaurant with a handful of locations around the country opened its first outpost in Massachusetts. The Simple Greek is now up and running at 290 Turnpike Rd., as Patch reported, and it will honor the occasion with a grand opening on Friday, March 3.
The Simple Greek embraces the use of a counter-service system to offer a menu of customizable, Mediterranean-inspired meals, including rice, lentil, and salad bowls, as well as pita entrees. Protein options on the menu range from traditional gyro meat to steak, pork, chicken, and lentils, and there are assorted toppings, sauces, and “finishes” available to round out the dishes. The restaurants also serve sides, including spanakopita, dolmades, hummus, soup, and cheese pie.
The Simple Greek in Westborough will be open open Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Another location opened recently in Norwalk, CT, and additional restaurants are reportedly planned for Boston proper, Providence, RI and Nashua, NH.
Mike Ference and Kathleen Kamouyerou-Ference founded the original concept, My Big Fat Greek Gyro, outside of Pittsburgh in 2004, as previously reported. They later partnered with entrepreneur Marcus Lemonis, host of CNBC’s “The Profit,” to further develop the restaurants.
