Four months after opening its sixth location (1288 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge’s Harvard Square), Tatte Bakery & Cafe is readying for yet another expansion, this time to a forthcoming 17-story residential building in Fenway, 1350 Boylston. The building’s developer, Skanska USA Commercial Development, announced the news today, noting that the Tatte space would span about 2,900 square feet and debut in fall 2017. (The ground floor of the building will have about 4,100 additional square feet of retail space; no word yet on what will be joining Tatte there.)
In addition to its new Harvard Square location, Tatte is also elsewhere in Cambridge (205 Broadway, 318 Third St., and 101 Main St.), as well as in Boston’s Beacon Hill (70 Charles St.) and in Brookline (1003 Beacon St.), the original location. The popular cafes serve up a full range of cafe fare, from pastries and breakfast sandwiches to salads, shakshuka, soups, sandwiches, and more.
A year ago, Panera acquired just over a 50% stake in Tatte. “We will continue to operate as an independent company,” Tatte founder Tzurit Or said at the time, “with access to select Panera resources to support our growth. It took me many years to find the right partner for Tatte, for us. The partner that will allow us to grow the right way, our way, the Tatte way and to be able to bring Tatte to as many people possible.” The Harvard location opened in a former Panera space.
Tatte’s Fenway location will join a bustling dining scene, with restaurants such as Sweet Cheeks, Tiger Mama, and Citizen Public House close by. Plus, Portland’s Eventide Oyster Co. is expected to open a location inside the Van Ness apartment building at 1321 Boylston St., although an opening timeline has not yet been announced.
