Winter may be here, but it’s at least bringing some pizza along: California’s Midici (stylized as MidiCi), which specializes in Neapolitan pies, will open its first New England location on Friday, February 9, nearly a month after originally planned due to some construction hiccups from a storm in early January. On opening day, Midici will offer free Margherita pizzas between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m., with more specials available throughout the weekend.

When Midici arrives at Somerville’s Assembly Row (463 Assembly Row), it will have seating for 110 in an open dining room and a seasonal outdoor patio with 60 seats and four fire pits.

The menu at Midici features 12-inch Neapolitan pizzas cooked in clay ovens imported from Italy. Guests will have a view of the baking process in Somerville, as the restaurant has central zone with the two ovens, an open kitchen, and a full bar. Pizzas range from classic Margherita to four-cheese, egg and bacon, and truffle with prosciutto. There are also several salads and appetizers available, in addition to desserts.

This location’s franchisees are Sean Olson, who also operates Five Guys and Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop franchises in the area, and Paul Cimino.

“We’re excited to bring Midici to Assembly Row, and we think pizza lovers in this area are going to enjoy our distinctive Neapolitan pies, entrée salads, sides, and desserts, as well as our full bar, all in our unique atmosphere,” Olson said in a release.

In other opening week news, Midici plans to donate 20 percent of its sales on Thursday, February 15, to the Somerville High School Culinary Arts Program and the Somerville Homeless Coalition, and on February 10, there will be free Margherita pizzas for children 12 and under (with an adult purchase) between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Midici will operate Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Once the Somerville location opens, stay tuned for a Dorchester one as well.

Update 1/8, 11 a.m.: This story has been updated to reflect an altered opening timeline for the restaurant. Midici’s grand opening will be delayed due to a collapse of scaffolding outside the building, which has interfered with construction. The restaurant needs to evaluate the impact, but could open later on in January. Stay tuned for updates.

Update 1/30, 9 a.m.: This story now reflects the set opening date for Midici of February 9 and two special events on February 10 and 15.
