A restaurant churning out food inspired by East Asia kicks off business in South Boston this weekend, around the corner from its older taco bar sibling. Fat Baby (118 Dorchester St.), from Mike Shaw (Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar), debuts Saturday, December 2, with a lineup of noodles, sushi, and ramen, according to Boston Magazine.

Fat Baby borrows Loco chef Matt Drummond to manage the menu alongside sushi chef Kegan Stritchko (Uni) and chef de cuisine Danielle Dorcil (Colonnade Hotel). Rachel Titcomb, the general manager of Loco, will also run Fat Baby’s front-of-house.

The menu takes on classic dishes from East Asia, including everything from noodle bowls to nigiri, sashimi, and maki sushi offerings, along with crudo, pork belly ramen, and chicken banh mi bao. There is also a selection of cocktails, eight different sake options, a sake sangria, and beer.

Doors open for Fat Baby at 5 p.m. Saturday, and henceforth the kitchen will operate from 5 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with the bar in operation until 1 a.m. The team plans to add lunch and brunch in the future.
