The bounty of Somerville’s under-construction Bow Market continues to grow, and now there will be an extra dose of sweetness involved: Gâté Comme des Filles will open a storefront within the forthcoming Union Square complex, as Boston Magazine mentioned, where founder Alexandra Whisnant will serve her delicate chocolates, chocolate mousse, and hot chocolate, among other items.
Whisnant currently makes her chocolates out of the Foods Hub at Aeronaut Brewing Company, and she will be popping up alongside Somerville Chocolate at Lizzy’s Ice Cream in Harvard Square starting in December.
The forthcoming space in Bow Market will have a small open kitchen where Whisnant can make her small-batch, seasonal chocolates and customers can observe the process. The retail arm of the shop will include gift boxes of the chocolates in four-piece, nine-piece, and 16-piece sizes.
Additionally, Gâté Comme des Filles’s Bow Market shop will have decadent hot chocolates with whipped creams infused with flavors like cinnamon, peppermint, and espresso cream, Whisnant told Eater.
“I will use the same techniques and ingredients that I use to make ganache to make thick, luscious hot chocolate in seasonal flavors,” she said. And in the summer: iced cacao drinks.
Whisnant is also hoping to experiment with unsweetened drinks, still featuring cacao, but packing less of a sweet punch than the hot chocolate.
Plus, Whisnant will serve her famous dark chocolate mousse in chocolate cones, made in-house of course, or in carry-out tubs for serving at home.

“We plan to serve all the mousse to order out of a large bowl, like they do in restaurants in France,” she said. “And it will also be seasonal, with flavors like blackberry-rose, sour cherry, plum-armagnac, and meyer lemon.”
Within the shop, chocolates and beverages will be served in mismatched china, and there will be a record player churning out some classic albums.
“It's going to be so much fun, I can't wait,” Whisnant said.
Gâté Comme des Filles joins several other food and drink enterprises slated to open within the new Bow Market, including Hooked Fish Shop, Buenas empanadas, Jaju Pierogi, a Mike & Patty’s pizza and roast beef concept, adorable macarons, Filipino food, and a brewery. Ultimately there will be over 30 food and retail vendors, and the market is heading towards a spring 2018 opening.
