Unknown parties have tapped Roslindale as the site for a new brewery. Roslindale Village Main Street teased the news on its Facebook page this week, indicating that a “brand new brewery” has leased a corner space on Belgrade Avenue and will open sometime in the spring of 2018, according to Universal Hub.
The space at 2 Belgrade Ave. was previously home to Emack & Bolio’s ice cream shop. According to the Main Street post, the unnamed brewery will appear at the neighborhood’s holiday market on Birch Street on December 7 but doesn’t want to make itself known before then.
With several new breweries opening around Greater Boston within the last few months, this addition to Roslindale follows a trend of growth in the craft beer sector. Just this week, rumors surfaced that Trillium could have a plan in the works to appear at the Roslindale substation in some capacity, and while the teaser was short lived, there’s been plenty of speculation — including the idea of a temporary winter beer garden, similar to its summer project on the Greenway. Trillium has not shared more information publicly and told Eater that there was nothing to report, but along with the news of the brewery coming to Belgrade Avenue, this has been a big beer week for Roslindale, which does not yet have its own brewery, despite proximity to the iconic Sam Adams and the new Turtle Swamp, both in Jamaica Plain.
Speaking of Sam Adams, today the brewery debuts its brand new taproom and Bier Keller.
Update 11/10, 11:30 a.m.: The Roslindale brewery will apparently be named Distraction Brewing Company, per Boston Restaurant Talk.
