Canadian chain Boston Pizza will complete the circle next summer when it opens its first location of Boston’s Pizza Restaurant and Sports Bar (full name: Boston’s the Gourmet Pizza Restaurant and Sports Bar) between the Fenway and Back Bay neighborhoods of the city that gives the chain its name.
A representative from Boston’s told Eater that the restaurant will be situated at 1124 Boylston St. (which is right by Berklee College of Music) and that the restaurant is shooting for an opening date in June 2018. This won’t be Boston’s only Boston expansion — as previously reported, the company plans to open a second location sometime in 2020.
Though named for the Hub, the chain was founded in 1964 in Edmonton, Alberta by a Greek immigrant named Gus Agioritis. The story goes like this: Agioritis took a trip to Boston, fawned over the city, and went home to Edmonton to open the Boston Pizza and Spaghetti House. Flash forward more than 50 years, and Boston Pizza has around 400 locations throughout Canada and another 27 under the name Boston’s Pizza Restaurant and Sports Bar spread across 15 U.S. states.

So, why Boston?
“We really wanted to establish ourselves in our namesake, but we also feel that community and culture largely contribute to what makes the city of Boston so great, and we want to be a part of that,” said a representative from the restaurant group.
The Boston versions of Boston’s will feature the same menus as their other American locations: bar food like nachos and wings and an assortment of salads, burgers, pasta dishes, and pizzas. The restaurant will also feature a take-out menu, a kids’ menu, a delivery service, and a catering service.
“We offer gourmet food served in a sports and family-friendly environment,” said the same representative from Boston’s. “We want to be the place that you come with your buddies, that you can ultimately rely on for great food and a great time.”
Boston is finally getting the sports bar it deserves: one named after itself.
