An expanding empire of locally grown bakeries adds a new member of the family soon: Tatte Bakery & Cafe has completed its newest bakery in the Fenway neighborhood and will open the doors on October 30, according to a recent Instagram post from the bakery. Tatte Fenway will feature a familiar menu of precise tarts and pastries, breads, and multiple kinds of shakshuka.
The new bakery will occupy nearly 3,000 square feet of space in the base of a 17-story residential building at 1350 Boylston St., as previously reported.
In 2016, Tatte caught the eye of Panera, which acquired just over a 50 percent stake in the bakery, leaving founder Tzurit Or to operate the local group of bakeries independently, albeit with a steady source of support for growth. Since then, Or has added an expansive two-level Tatte in Harvard Square, and with the additional Fenway location and a forthcoming bakery in Back Bay at 399 Boylston St., the total number of bakeries will grow to eight.
Tatte originally planned to open the bakery on Thursday, October 12, the day after the bakery chain introduces its new fall menu, which features items like a sweet potato tatin and a seasonal shakshuka. However a technical error in the licensing process forced a change Monday, and Or shared a new post on the bakery’s Instagram page that read, in part: “We are extremely sad and disappointed with this situation but excited to open our doors in a few days. Thank you for all your kind messages, for the love and support! We love you!” Stay tuned for details on the new opening date.
