Try This at Home
After a research tour including stops at Gene’s Chinese Flatbread Cafe (86 Bedford St., Boston — Downtown Crossing) and MDM Noodles (351 Washington St., Brighton — Brighton Center), not to mention the watching of YouTube videos and the studying of online forums and Instagram posts, the Cook’s Science crew pulled together a technique for making chewy, elastic hand-pulled noodles (biang biang mian) from scratch at home. Here’s the recipe.
An Oatstanding Breakfast
The recently debuted oatmeal cafe, Oat Shop (22A College Ave., Somerville — Davis Square), is now open seven days a week and holding a “grand oatpening” celebration on Sunday, January 29 by giving out a free medium coffee or small iced coffee with any bowl purchased. It’ll be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pizza in Providence
Warren, Rhode Island’s Federal Hill Pizza (495 Main St.), which has been open for over a decade, expanded to Providence this week (1039 Chalkstone Ave.) with brick-oven pizza and a whole lot more (burgers, pasta, etc.) Its cafe opens daily at 6 a.m. with coffee, espresso, snacks, and more, while the dining room and bar are open from 11:30 a.m. to midnight.
