A space that once housed a Latin-style bar in Jamaica Plain will adopt a different feel this spring when an Irish pub opens in its place. The Gate is almost ready to make its debut in the former Coco’s Lounge space at 3171 Washington St. in Egleston Square, according to Egleston Square Main Street.
The Irish pub is the work of Paul Byrne, the former co-owner of James’s Gate, which closed in September 2015 after 18 years in business. He petitioned to transfer the liquor license from Coco’s Lounge to The Gate back in October, as previously reported, and the pub is now headed for an opening in March.
The Gate will reportedly operate Monday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. It will have a “classic pub-style menu with traditional Irish dishes, along with a creative and unique twist on pub favorites,” according to the website.
