A new smokehouse has opened in a Brookline storefront where an old smokehouse used to be, and the new one has ties to a handful of other Boston-area restaurants. Magnolia Smokehouse is now open, Boston Restaurant Talk first reported, and the restaurant confirms the news. It joins the family of restaurants that includes Carrie Nation, Emmet’s Pub, and Scholars.
The new restaurant at 6 Harvard Sq. features a Southern-inspired menu. Appetizers include fried pickles and shrimp and okra beignets, and there is a selection of sandwiches, salads, and sides. Entrees include everything from shrimp and grits to fried chicken and hanger steak. A "from the pit" section of the menu features items that have been treated to the restaurant’s citrus sweet tea brine before smoking. Items are available for takeout.
Magnolia Smokehouse is currently open for dinner only, beginning at 5 p.m., but eventually it will ramp up to full hours, including lunch: 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Friday, 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, and 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Sunday.
Update, 9/12, 10 a.m.: This story has been updated to reflect changes to Magnolia's menu.
