Two Longtime Harvard Square Restaurants Say Goodbye

A longtime fixture of Harvard Square’s restaurant scene will close its doors at the end of this week. Fire + Ice, which has been around for about 20 years and has a second Massachusetts location in Back Bay, will leave its home on Church Street after dinner service on Sunday night, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. (There is also a location in Providence and two in California.)

Another Harvard Square spot has closed its doors for good after running into some issues with rent, the Harvard Crimson reported. Uno Pizzeria shuttered its 22 John F. Kennedy St. restaurant last Thursday. An Uno representative told the Crimson the cost of rent had "gotten out of whack" of late, making maintaining that location far too expensive.

Fire + Ice and Uno join a long list of Harvard Square restaurants that have either closed entirely or relocated in recent months. Restaurants like Clover, Oggi Gourmet, and B.Good all made plans to change locations as a result of construction at Harvard’s Smith Campus Center, and neighborhood staples like Au Bon Pain and Panera closed for good. Tatte Bakery & Cafe will soon be opening a massive store inside the former Panera location.
