A California-based coffee chain is making its way east and has tapped Boston as the next location for its expansion. Philz Coffee will make its mark on Boston sometime in 2017, as Eater reports.

Philz Coffee started out in San Francisco in 2002 and spread across the state in the last 14 years, opening 27 cafes in the Bay Area, six in Southern California, and its first two East Coast locations in Washington, DC.

A fresh round of funding will fuel this new expansion for Philz, which raised $45 million with the help of an equity firm, Forbes reports, and it could mean boosting the number of coffee shops to 50 in 2017.

Philz specializes in coffee made "one cup at a time" and roasts its beans in Oakland, CA. Each location serves up a range of roasts, as well as tea and hot chocolate. Some locations serve food as well.

An exact location for Philz Coffee in Boston has not yet been revealed; stay tuned for updates.
