A longtime Cambridge fixture will take its business from one neighborhood to another, Boston Restaurant Talk reports. Baraka Cafe is closing its doors at 80 1⁄2 Pearl St. in Cambridgeport, just outside of Central Square, but it will reopen at 1728 Massachusetts Ave. between Harvard and Porter, taking over the space Boca Grande Taqueria recently vacated.
Baraka Cafe has been around for 20 years. According to the restaurant's outgoing voicemail message, Baraka Cafe is changing locations because the landlord of the current building passed away.
The move will happen on September 15, and the proprietors estimate they will reopen in early or mid-October. The message thanked customers and said the restaurant would look forward to seeing people in the new location. Baraka Cafe specializes in North African cuisine and serves lunch and dinner.
Update, 9/26/16: Baraka Cafe had its last dinner service on Pearl Street on September 24. The restaurant plans to share updates on an opening timeline for the new location on social media.
