In a flurry of meat-filled dough, Tom’s BaoBao will officially open at noon next Tuesday, July 12, according to an Instagram post from the fast-casual restaurant. It’s located at 84 Winthrop St. in Cambridge’s Harvard Square (near Shake Shack).
The "Tom" in Tom’s BaoBao is founder Tom Tong, who is also behind Ganquishi, a Chinese bao (steamed bun) chain with more than 200 locations, as previously reported. This is the first unit for Tong’s new United States concept, and a Providence location is also in the works. Ultimately, Tong hopes to open twenty to thirty locations in the next five years, according to the Globe.
The opening menu for Tom’s BaoBao is simply bao with a variety of fillings (curry beef, sweet potato, chicken, and a few others), along with soy milk, Chinese tea, coffee, and juices. Keep an eye out for seasonal bao specials, such as lobster.
