A popular Davis Square restaurant will introduce a new little sibling to Brookline's Washington Square, taking over the space of the now-closed, Italian-turned-French restaurant Ribelle, reports the Globe. Joe Cassinelli of The Painted Burro will open The Burro Bar at 1665 Beacon St. sometime this fall or early winter.
Ribelle’s chef/owner Tim Maslow closed and sold the restaurant in early July, joining Tiffani Faison at Tiger Mama in Fenway. Cassinelli, who owns the Alpine Restaurant Group (which includes Rosebud American Kitchen & Bar, Posto, and Osteria Posto, in addition to The Painted Burro) stepped in to execute this expansion of his Davis Square restaurant. The new concept in Washington Square will be a diminutive version of The Painted Burro, with a similar menu, cocktail program, and design feel.
Cassinelli has eyed the Brookline area for some time, according to a rep. Though the Alpine Restaurant Group’s website promises further expansion of its restaurants, for the time being, Cassinelli will keep his focus on the opening of The Burro Bar.
