A former East Boston pub will get a new life thanks to the owner of two longtime Boston-area restaurants. Peter Ackerman, who owns two Salvatore’s Restaurant locations in Seaport and Downtown Boston, received support from the Orient Heights Neighborhood Council this week and will turn the old Victory Pub into a new bar called Renegade’s Pub, making it into a gastro-style spot for burgers and beer, the East Boston Times-Free Press reported.
The venue in Orient Heights Square will undergo a complete rework, resulting in a 35-seat restaurant with reasonably priced food and a strict 1 a.m. closing hour to respect the neighborhood, Ackerman reportedly explained in the meeting. He told the council he planned to hire locally and wanted to create a place that would become a new neighborhood spot for residents to enjoy.
The new Renegade’s Pub will open at 1004 Bennington St., just down the street from the Orient Heights MBTA station.
