The end of an era

After more than 75 years in business, a Somerville restaurant has closed, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. The owners of La Hacienda at 46 Medford St. received a real estate offer they couldn’t refuse, Boston.com reported. The long-standing restaurant was located in Somerville's Boynton Yards neighborhood, just outside of Union Square.

John DiCecca first opened the restaurant in 1939 under a different name, and his sons Frank and Louis continued to run the restaurant over the years, serving up Italian-American cuisine. The brothers had recently closed the restaurant for summer vacation but did not reopen after receiving an offer from a real estate company to purchase the property for around $5 million. Louis DiCecca told Boston.com he anticipated condos going into the space.

The DiCeccas will apparently use the money to invest in real estate, and they plan to open a catering business, so fans of their food — ravioli, veal marsala, shrimp scampi, bar pizza, and more — may see it again in the future.
